Print Care
All prints use forest friendly paper and environmentally friendly water based/water soluble inks. Each print is precious and to be loved with care. For Customer help please email: info@ei8htycats.com as soon as possible. We're happy to help.
Printing Methods
Linocut printing | The printing plate is lino (linoleum, as in the floor covering) that gets carved into. The lino is then inked with water soluble ink, and paper placed over it. Pressure is applied with a printing press or by hand, typically by using a metal spoon to transfer the ink to the paper. Colours are processed separately via each master (colour separated layers) lino -this is achieved by further carving. The smooth surface of the lino doesn't add texture to the print, but prints are unique due to the hand made nature of the process. |
Screen printing | Made popular by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein in the 1960's with their iconic images. Screen printing is a technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer water soluble ink onto a substrate, except in blocked areas made impermeable. Colours are processed separately via each master (colour separated layers) mesh. |
Risograph printing | Mimeograph printing device that is an environmentally friendly spot printing process, utilising soy or rice based water soluble inks. Like the other printing techniques, colours are processed separately via a master (sheet of bamboo paper for each colour separated layer) template. The underlying technology is very similar to that of screen printing. The original image file is scanned or sent to the machine, then burnt onto a master. The master is then wrapped around a print drum. This drum then rotates at high speed which pushes the ink through the screen and onto the paper as it is sent through the machine. Uneconomical for mass production, the nature of this process can produce a unique feel with short print runs. |
Lithograph printing | A method of offset printing, in which the masters (colour separated layers) are metal plates and transferred (offset) to rubber blankets or rollers and then to paper. |
